Tips for a Smooth Hot Matcha Latte

Sift your matcha: Sifting removes small clumps and makes it much easier to whisk your matcha smoothly.

Avoid boiling water: Water around 80°C helps preserve matcha's natural sweetness and prevents excessive bitterness.

Whisk the matcha first: Fully combine your matcha and water before adding milk for a smoother, more even latte.

Warm, don't scorch, the milk: Gently heated or foamed milk gives the latte a creamy texture without overpowering the matcha.

Adjust to taste: Add a little more milk for a milder latte or less milk for a stronger matcha flavour.

Make It with Eupouria Matcha

Great matcha recipes start with quality matcha. Eupouria's Organic First Harvest Matcha is sourced primarily from Kagoshima, Japan and stone-milled for natural sweetness, creamy texture and deep umami.

Frequently Asked Questions

What milk is best for a hot matcha latte?

Dairy milk and alternatives such as oat, soy and almond milk can all be used. Choose the milk that gives you your preferred flavour and texture.

What temperature should the water be for matcha?

Around 80°C works well for this recipe. Very hot or boiling water can increase bitterness and overpower matcha's more delicate flavours.

Do I need to sift matcha for a latte?

Sifting helps break apart small clumps in the matcha powder, making it easier to whisk into a smooth and consistent drink.

Can I make a matcha latte without a bamboo whisk?

Yes. A bamboo chasen is ideal, but a small electric frother or whisk can also be used to combine the matcha and water.

How much matcha should I use for one hot latte?

This recipe uses 4g of matcha for one strong hot matcha latte. You can reduce the amount for a milder drink or increase the milk to suit your taste.
